Doodle for Google Contest!

We all use Google everyday to look for information. Every now and then, there is a new link on the main Google page which catches my eye. If you haven’t done so yet, follow the Doodle for Google Contest link. The theme of this year’s contest is “What I Wish for the World.” The drawings which I previewed are all absolutely delightful but the originations of the young people who created them are what I found most compelling.
Here’s a YouTube video with some animated Google Doodles which is promoting the contest.
Every internet marketer has access to the entire world to promote their businesses. Not everyone is guaranteed visitors to their website daily, however. We all know that Google has this sort of leverage. To see a huge company like that use their advantage in such a selfless way warmed my heart.
Community involvement is not a new business idea. Engaging our prospects or existing customers through being present in a non-threatening way is a great method to get to know these people as people. Initiating a contest can permit you to attract targeted traffic to your site and it can be a lot of fun for you and your staff too. You are only limited by your imagination.
As internet marketers, we often overlook things that are not trendy. Leaving our desks to actually interact with our local community is something we rarely do. This could be due to the fact that we have an “online” business but I don’t think we should use that as an excuse. Getting involved with our regional and local communities can only stand to facilitate meetings with other like-minded entrepreneurs and expand our circle of influence.
If you haven’t done so already, cast your vote at Doodle for Google Contest. If you are inspired, try to think up a way to use this great promotional tool in your business too.

That is so true Marj…
I think that more people should think like you. It’s important to maintain our online marketing and networking we do on a daily basis that is hopefully bringing us an income, but we can also interweave traditional communication into the mix as well. Believe it or not, you can use attraction marketing in normal life outside of that wonderful world wide web we call the net.
Who knows…
You might meet someone in your hometown that you can collaborate with in new ways that increase business for both of you!
I enjoy seeing the different faces of google – took me a while to sort out the morse code one though! I love to see creativity in every area.
Thanks for the blogpost Marj.
Thanks Marj! Wonderful post and thanks for bringing this to my/our attention. I have noticed Google’s logo change through out the seasons… but never new about this Doodle contest thing.
This is exciting, visionary even and I’m loving it…
“…the intriguing theme “What I Wish for the World. Both our country and the world are undergoing significant change.” … and I love all the suggestions so far and can not wait to see the contestants and winner of this year:
Theme & a few GREAT examples so far :
What I Wish For The World
… we use plants for electricity
… we make college free for everyone
… we give health insurance to all who need it
… we connect everyone by cell phone or computer
The first reminds me of the way we lived in harmony with nature back in the days of Mu and Lemuria … (who remembers that?) The last one sounds like my passion; world oneness … global connections using the internet.
Marj…
I read your post then enjoyed the video… once it showed up (took a while – I was about to ask you why there was a big space… then the video uploaded), …
Then I clicked on the link “Doodle for Google Contest” … and really enjoyed watching last years video Doodle for Google contest… which talks and explains more.
Future internet marketers you think maybe? Especially the way the kid at the end speaks, “…to have that for a day, even though its just a day, its amazing! … what do you think?
Whats the marketing idea?
(I guess I got lost enjoying in the creative opportunity.)
Hi Julie,
So glad you enjoyed this post as much as you did!
To answer your question, the marketing idea is to sponser a contest on your website. I’m going to be doing this with another colleague of mine, as soon as she is well enough. I dreamed up the idea last December and I know it will be a lot of fun … and allow us to meet a lot of great new online friends who share our passion.
As a former Realtor, I frequently was involved in community activities that had nothing to do with open houses. Pumpkin parties, school events, yardwork for the elderly and even a local parade. It was a great way to promote our business and have fun without conducting business. As I said in the post, one is only limited by their own imagination.
